Permanence is a distribution problem

Your work is permanent not because you wrote it, but because it exists in more than one place not controlled by the same account.

The failure

One account holds your repo, site, releases, and identity. It gets flagged. Everything goes dark at once, and you may not find out for weeks — nothing errors on your machine, the internet just stops seeing you.

The domain is the whole trick

A domain is the only identity you own — every username is rented and revocable without appeal. Twelve dollars a year buys the one address that survives every platform. Point it wherever you live now; when that dies, repoint it. Everyone who bookmarked you still arrives.

The check nobody runs

Once a month, from a browser you're not logged into, check your own URL's status code. Platforms show owners a version of reality strangers don't get. Check as a stranger, or you're checking nothing.
